Rhinoplasty or cosmetic nose surgery can provide the appearance of youth. A recent study by my mentor and fellowship director in Toronto has shown that patients do appear younger when a nasal hump is removed during rhinoplasty or the nasal tip is rotated great than 10 degrees.

As a rhinoplasty surgeon I have seen this countless times in my patients. As our face does over time, our nose ages as well. Ligaments in the nose become weaker and we lose elasticity in our skin and soft tissues. This is the perceived reason one may believe the nose “grows” as we age. The nose does not grow but the tip might droop giving the appearance of a nasal hump and a longer or “bigger” nose.

I have noticed that after nose surgery, many of my patients appear more youthful and rejuvenated despite only having rhinoplasty performed. This is an added benefit of rhinoplasty in addition to providing a more well balanced appearance and functional improvement.
