Is Rhinoplasty Worth It?

Rhinoplasty or nose job surgery is one of the more common types of plastic surgery. A common question many patients ask themselves is whether or not surgery to change the shape of the nose and improve breathing is worthwhile. As I have not had nose surgery myself, I can only attest to what my patients have told me postoperatively.

Those patients that had functional rhinoplasty or nose surgery to correct breathing problems due to a deviated septum, large turbinates, or valve collapse have frequently told me, “I didn’t know this was how I was supposed to breath through my nose!”. Their quality of life has significantly improved with decreased allergies, less snoring, and an ability to now blow/clean their nose.

Patients who undergo cosmetic rhinoplasty will frequently tell me that this was the nose they always believed they had when they envisioned themselves. They do tell me that nobody notices that they had a nose job but people are commenting more on their hair, eyes, and lips. The key here is that their nose is now blending in with their face. It does not distract from the other features of the face.
