Is Rhinoplasty Safe?

I frequently am asked by patients if nose surgery is safe. Rhinoplasty or a nose job is an outpatient surgery that is typically done under general anesthesia. In comparison to other types of outpatient and general surgery, nose surgery is relatively safe. Of course there are the risks of anesthesia but in today’s age of modern medicine, these are fairly minimal and rare. As far as wound healing is concerned, the nose has an excellent blood supply and rarely has issues with wound healing or infection. Just as with any surgery though, there are risks.

How much does nose surgery cost?

The cost of nose surgery or rhinoplasty is dependent on what needs to be done and who is doing it.

If you only have breathing or sinus issues and need functional nasal surgery and/or sinus surgery, then the majority of your surgery will be paid by your insurance. This will of course depend on the type of benefits you have through your insurance (deductible, copay, etc.)

Cosmetic nose surgery can range variably depending on the complexity of the surgery and the surgeon. If you have had previous surgery, revision rhinoplasty is a more involved surgery which may require ear cartilage or rib cartilage and need much more careful dissection due to all the scar tissue from the previous surgery. Primary or 1st time rhinoplasty cost will depend on the surgeon performing the surgery.
