Facelift Surgery Recovery

[https://www.funkfacialplastics.com/surgical_proc.aspx?id=FF]Recovery after a facelift[/url] varies depending on the extent of surgery and age of the patient. A short scar facelift or mini facelift may only require 7-10 days recovery while a full face and neck lift may require 14-20 days of recovery. If a neck lift is required with the facelift, then this requires further dissection and suturing which ultimately leads to a little more bruising and swelling. The vertical or deep plane facelift lifts the muscle or SMAS and releases the deep ligaments leading to slightly more swelling. However, this lift does last longer and leads to a more natural appearing look in the long term.

Assuring that you have stopped any blood thinners and alcohol for the proper amount of time prior to surgery will decrease bruising. Use of drains and a pressure dressing can decrease bruising as well. Lastly, herbal remedies such as Arnica Montana (which we provide for all our facelift patients) can in some cases decrease bruising and swelling.

Why Nose Surgery is so Popular

After breast augmentation, rhinoplasty or nose job surgery is the most common type of plastic surgery performed. Many are unhappy with the appearance of their nose and desire cosmetic changes through rhinoplasty. A good rhinoplasty can truly allow people to appreciate one’s eyes, lips, and hair. When I look through many of my patient’s before and after rhinoplasty photographs I notice how much their nose overwhelmed their face. The nose should truly disappear into the center of the face and not be a distracting feature. Nose surgery is a commonly performed procedure as many desire a smaller, straighter, and more refined appearance to an object they don’t want people to notice.

Copy Kate - Kate Middleton’s nose and Rhinoplasty

A recent study out of NYU revealed that a rotation angle of 106 degrees to the nasal tip was the most aesthetically pleasing in Caucasian women. I would tend to agree that the Kate Middleton nose is attractive, but what is it that makes it so appealing? I always tell my rhinoplasty patients that an attractive nose is one that does not attract attention. The nose should disappear into the face and not distract from other features such as the eyes, lips, and hair. A good rhinoplasty or nose job is not seen in the nose, but in the eyes.

One must also keep in mind that a Kate Middleton nose on an African American, Hispanic, or Asian patient may look “done” or “nose jobby”. As a nose surgeon, I must respect a patient’s ethnic background, their facial proportions, and their wishes and desires when remodeling their nose.

Rhinoplasty is worth it

I see many patients in consultation for nose job surgery or rhinoplasty and it seems at times that they may be unsure as to whether rhinoplasty is worth it. Last week I had a patient come in 6 days postoperatively for their first postop visit, as per usual, and I removed the cast and tape. After handing her the mirror, she burst into tears and began to cry with joy. She absolutely loved her new nose! This is not an uncommon response I have had from other patients when revealing things after rhinoplasty. It’s reactions like these that truly warm my heart and make my job so rewarding.

Nose surgery for changing the shape of the nose can truly enhance one’s face and allow focus to be placed on the eyes, lips, and hair. A good rhinoplasty is not seen in the nose, but in the eyes.
