What is a Mini Facelift?

There is considerable variation in terminology when it comes to the facelift. Many of my patients come in for consultation desiring a mini facelift. The various types of facelifts are typically based upon where the incisions lie and the extent of dissection. With a mini facelift, the incision is mainly in front of the ear and may extend slightly behind the earlobe. The skin is elevated and the muscle/fascia in the face is tightened with stitches. There is no dissection of the skin of the neck and the muscle in the neck is not tightened.

The mini facelift is an excellent option for those patients in their 40’s or possibly early 50’s with mild jowling who want an improved jawline. These patients typically do not have much laxity of skin in the neck or significant banding of muscles in the neck. The recovery for a mini facelift is typically 10-14 days.

Dr. Funk is a facial plastic surgeon who performs mini facelifts in Houston in addition to other facial plastic surgical procedures.
