How important are reviews for rhinoplasty

Many of my patients who are interested in rhinoplasty or nose job surgery state that they have read reviews online and this helped them decide to come in for consultation. Reviews regarding a surgeon’s work, bedside manner, results, and/or staff are important but can vary. One must recognize that these reviews are subjective and based on the patient’s rhinoplasty experience. Patients could have an excellent result and yet still be unhappy while others may have a result that you as the review reader may not find to be satisfactory, yet the patient loves. The bottom line is, when researching for a rhinoplasty surgeon in Houston, reviews are important, but should be read with a grain of salt.

Rhinoplasty and deviated septum surgery

Rhinoplasty or nose job surgery changes the shape of the nose. This is frequently done with shaping cartilage grafts that are taken from the septum (the wall that separates the two sides of the nose). A deviated septum may be crooked due to trauma, passage through the birth canal, or pubescent growth. During rhinoplasty, deviated septum surgery or septoplasty may be performed while obtaining the cartilage for grafting purposes. This will straighten the septum and allow the surgeon to remove the deviated cartilage and use it for aesthetic purposes or support of the tip. Grafts that are frequently used with septal cartilage are a columellar strut, spreader grafts, or a shield graft. The septal cartilage can also be used to build up the bridge of the nose with ethnic rhinoplasty.

Nose Job Cost

Patients recognize that most plastic surgery is not covered by insurance. Many of my online patient inquiries or phone calls inquire what is the cost of a nose job. The only answer here is that it varies.

The complexity of the cosmetic changes you desire to your nose will dictate the cost of your rhinoplasty. If you have any functional or breathing issues, the cost of these internal changes may be directed towards your insurance which will reduce the cost of the cosmetic portion. Lastly, every surgeon charges different fees for nose surgery. It is very dependent on their level of expertise, experience, and difficulty of your nose.

Does a deviated septum cause headaches?

Many patients who seek nose surgery or rhinoplasty state they have been told they have a deviated septum. Some of these patients may also state they suffer from chronic headaches or what they believe to be migraines.

In some cases, a deviated septum may include a spur or sharp point that can impinge on the lateral wall of the inside of the nose or on the turbinate. Think of it as a bunion inside the nose that is pushing on other structures. This can lead to a certain type of headache called a Sluders headache.

Deviated septum surgery or septoplasty involves removing this spur and straightening the headache therefore releasing the pressure point and alleviating many of these headaches.
