Should I have nostril reduction with Rhinoplasty?

Ethnic rhinoplasty frequently requires incisions around the nostrils to bring them in and narrow the base of the nose or make the nostrils more narrow. This is commonly performed in rhinoplasty for African-Americans, Asians, and some Hispanics.

Alar base reduction can be addressed in numerous ways. The nostrils and/or the entire nasal base can be made more narrow. The flare of the nostrils, or how much they curve out, can be reduced during nose job surgery as well.

The scars from nostril reduction are well hidden within the crease around the nostril and are placed in a shadowed area. They must be meticulously closed in order to avoid significant scarring.
