Does Rhinoplasty change your smile?

Rhinoplasty or nose job surgery is performed in order to change the shape of the nose. The septum, or wall that separates the inside of the nose, sits on top of the hard palate. When there is a deviated septum and septoplasty is performed with rhinoplasty, there can be additional swelling to the upper lip. Initially, after rhinoplasty, you may notice that your upper lip is tight or swollen, especially if you had deviated septum surgery. This is only temporary. It should resolve within 3-6 weeks once the swelling subsides. So when patients ask me, does rhinoplasty change your smile, the answer is that ultimately your smile will remain the same and will temporarily feel tight.

Dr. Funk is a top rhinoplasty surgeon in Houston, TX.
