Can Rhinoplasty Help with Snoring?

Snoring is caused by vibrations of the soft palate and base of the tongue in the back of our mouth (both muscles). When we sleep, our muscles become weak and flaccid. When we are primarily mouth breathers at night, these muscles or areas will vibrate.

Improving the nasal airway with rhinoplasty can improve snoring. This can be done with septoplasty for a deviated septum, turbinate reduction for enlarged turbinates, or valve repair for nasal valve collapse. These procedures can all be performed at the time of rhinoplasty. Your snoring should improve or be cured if these procedures are performed properly. However, if you have a large base of tongue or very low redundant soft palate, procedures to these areas may also be needed for your snoring.

Dr. Funk is rated one of the best rhinoplasty surgeons in Houston.
