Many of my Houston patients come in desiring eye bag surgery or lower blepharoplasty. Bags under the eyes are due to protrusion of fat that surrounds the eyeball. This excess fat can either be removed or repositioned into the groove that lies below the bag which appears like a dark circle. This dark circle is typically due to the shadowed effect the bag creates from light emanating from above. Lower eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty can be performed transconjunctival, through the inside pink portion of the eye or through the skin. This is typically a surgeon’s preference.
