Anesthesia with Rhinoplasty

Many patients want to know what type of anesthesia is used with rhinoplasty or nose job surgery. The majority the time a general anesthesia with a breathing tube is used for rhinoplasty. This is done to assure the patient is comfortable throughout the procedure and to protect the airway. During rhinoplasty, the nose will bleed and this blood could enter the airway if it is unprotected leading to aspiration and possible pneumonia. By performing nose surgery under general anesthesia with a breathing tube, not only is the patient more comfortable, but the airway is protected and there is less risk for aspiration.

Dr. Funk is a top rhinoplasty surgeon in Houston, TX.
