Will Insurance pay for Rhinoplasty?

Many of my Houston rhinoplasty patients will ask if insurance will pay for their rhinoplasty. This will depend on any functional issues the patient may have and what is found on physical exam. If you have breathing issues or recurrent sinus infection and are found to have a deviated septum, turbinate enlargement, valve collapse or a CT scan demonstrates sinus issues, these are functional issues that can be billed towards your insurance. However, the cosmetic portion of your surgery such as straightening the nose, taking down a hump, narrowing the nose, refining the tip, or bringing in the nostrils is not covered by insurance.

Whether to utilize your insurance will depend on your benefits such as your deductible and out of pocket. Most rhinoplasty surgery will include septoplasty in order to obtain cartilage for grafting purposes. Therefore, if you are not planning on using your insurance yet have a deviated septum, this will still be fixed at the time of your rhinoplasty.
