How do you find the best rhinoplasty surgeon in Houston? Finding the right nose job surgeon for you is a personal and important decision. You must find a rhinoplasty surgeon you are comfortable with and one who has a lot of rhinoplasty experience. Reading reviews about a rhinoplasty surgeon in Houston is important. It is important to see how many rhinoplasty reviews and the quality of the reviews about the surgeon. You can also appreciate if the surgeon does a lot of rhinoplasty in Houston based on what the reviewers are writing. If most of the reviews are about breast augmentation or facelift surgery in Houston, then perhaps that surgeon does not perform much rhinoplasty. Before and after rhinoplasty photos are important to review on the website. Assure your Houston rhinoplasty surgeon has many before and after rhinoplasty photos and that you like the results. If the results are not to your liking then your goal for the ideal nose may not be on par with the rhinoplasty surgeon’s aesthetic’s sense.

Laser eyelid surgery

Many patients believe laser eyelid surgery is a more advanced method of blepharoplasty or eyelid lift. In truth, there are many methods to perform upper and lower eyelid surgery. Typically, upper eyelid surgery is simply performed with excision of excess skin and reapproximation of that skin. Lower eyelid surgery can be more complex.

Transconjunctival lower eyelid surgery can be performed with a laser which reduces bleeding during the procedure, but overall, results in the same outcome with the same recovery. Eyelid surgery to remove the bags under the eyes and improve dark circles can be combined with laser resurfacing of the lower eyelid skin to address fine wrinkles and folds.

The bottom line is that there is more than one way to perform eyelid surgery, especially lower eyelid blepharoplasty. Seek a surgeon that is comfortable with his methods and performed them many times.

Will Rhinoplasty affect my Singing?

Professional and vocational singers who are interested in rhinoplasty or nose job surgery frequently ask me if nose surgery will change their voice. Rhinoplasty or even septoplasty for a deviated septum should not change the sound or resonance of one’s voice. It should actually improve singing as you should be able to breathe better through your nose while singing after rhinoplasty or septorhinoplasty.

Sinus surgery, where the drainage pathways from the sinuses are opened, can change the resonance of the voice. This is especially true for those patient with chronic sinusitis who may have impacted sinuses or sinuses full of polyps or mucus.

Scars after Rhinoplasty

Many rhinoplasty patients will asks if they will have scars after rhinoplasty. This depends on the type of skin you have and what is done.

With the open rhinoplasty approach, you will have an external scar in between the nostrils in the columella. This scar will heal fairly well with all skin types and given that it is underneath the nose in a shadowed area, the scar is rarely visible.

The alar scars for alar base reduction or nostrils size reduction are around the nostrils in a more fibrofatty region of the nasal skin. Narrowing the nostrils or addressing a wide nose requires these incisions. In most patients these scars will appear a little red during the first several weeks. Women can began putting makeup over these alar base scars at two weeks after surgery. However, it will take most patients anywhere between 3-6 months before these scars are imperceptible without makeup. These scars will seem more pronounce in ethnic rhinoplasty patients who have thicker skin or darker pigmented skin. In addition, if you have a propensity for acne scars or do not scar well, these scars may also appear more apparent. Overall, however, with meticulous closure and proper wound care, the scars should be minimal.

How common is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty or nose job surgery is the second most common cosmetic surgery after breast augmentation. Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure and recovery time after rhinoplasty is typically 8 days.

Bruising after rhinoplasty is dependent on the patient’s age, amount of work done, and patient’s propensity to bleed. In my younger patients, I would say that the majority have minimal bruising which is resolved by day 8. Older patients may still have mild bruising on day 8 but can easily be covered up with makeup.

The average age for rhinoplasty is typically in the late 20’s but can range from 14 to 70!
