Laser eyelid surgery

Many patients believe laser eyelid surgery is a more advanced method of blepharoplasty or eyelid lift. In truth, there are many methods to perform upper and lower eyelid surgery. Typically, upper eyelid surgery is simply performed with excision of excess skin and reapproximation of that skin. Lower eyelid surgery can be more complex.

Transconjunctival lower eyelid surgery can be performed with a laser which reduces bleeding during the procedure, but overall, results in the same outcome with the same recovery. Eyelid surgery to remove the bags under the eyes and improve dark circles can be combined with laser resurfacing of the lower eyelid skin to address fine wrinkles and folds.

The bottom line is that there is more than one way to perform eyelid surgery, especially lower eyelid blepharoplasty. Seek a surgeon that is comfortable with his methods and performed them many times.

Dr. Funk is a board certified facial plastic surgeon who performs upper and lower blepharoplasty in Houston.
