Facelift or Necklift for Men

A facelift or neck lift is typically though of for women, but today more and more men are interested in neck lifts to address their turkey gobbler neck, submental fullness, or double chin. Men who are over 55 typically will need a neck lift to address the excess skin and muscle laxity of the neck. Liposuction alone or Kybella alone will leave a lot of loose neck skin that may look worse.

A neck lift for a male is different than that for a female. Close attention must be placed on incisions to assure that the hair bearing skin is not brought onto the ear cartilage so that the patient will not need to shave his ear after a neck lift. In addition, it is important not to feminize the male face when performing a neck and facelift. I therefore do not suspend in as much of a vertical/lateral direction in the face as I would for a female creating a higher cheek bone appearance. This still allows for a tight neck and more defined jawline which are desirable for men.

Scar after Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery to remove excess skin or under eye bags is an excellent way to appear more refreshed, rejuvenated, and youthful. This surgery has little downtime and recovery is fairly painless.

The scars after eyelid surgery for the upper eyelid will hide nicely in the upper eyelid crease. There will be about 5-10mm of scar that extends out laterally from the eyelid that takes a little longer to heal but within several weeks will hide nicely in a crow’s feet wrinkle. The lower eyelid scar is 1-2mm below the lash line and hides nicely in a shadowed area and in a lower eyelid crease and is easily camouflaged by the lower eyelid lashes.

Non Surgical Nose Job using Fillers

We receive frequent calls in Houston for patients requesting non surgical nose jobs using fillers. This is a technique utilized to minimize postoperative recovery and an attempt to make a nose job more affordable.

However, non surgical rhinoplasty is truly indicated for very few patients. A non surgical nose job or rhinoplasty will actually make the nose larger as you are adding volume to the nose. Filler such as Restylane, Juvederm or Radiesse can be injected above the hump to give the illusion that the nose now has a straight profile. However, this would make the nose bigger. This will also not rotate the tip, refine the tip, make the nostrils narrower, or straighten the nose.

Therefore filler for the nose can adjust small irregularities in the nose but is not a great option for rhinoplasty.

How many revision rhinoplasties can I have?

Revision rhinoplasty is a complex operation that requires a great deal of experience on the surgeon’s part and reasonable expectation from the patient’s end. Every time a rhinoplasty surgery is performed, there is scar tissue left between the skin and cartilage. This scar tissue surrounds the cartilage making it more difficult to manipulate and shape. The wound healing process with revision rhinoplasty is less predictable than in primary rhinoplasty. There is no magic number as to how many revision rhinoplasties you can limit out on, but there does get to be a point of diminishing returns. It is most important to seek a revision rhinoplasty surgeon who is honest, experienced, and provides you with the adequate information to assure you attaint the rhinoplasty result you desire.
