Eyelid surgery and Rhinoplasty

A common question from my Houston patients is whether they can have eyelid surgery with rhinoplasty. Eyelid surgery can be performed with rhinoplasty. Whether it is upper eyelid surgery or lower eyelid surgery for lower eyelid bags. Either of these or both can be performed at the same time as rhinoplasty.

There may be more swelling as the eyelids will typically bruise slightly and swell with rhinoplasty alone. The combined eyelid surgery and rhinoplasty will likely cause a little more swelling and bruising.

Neck lift or Facelift or Both?

Many of my Houston facelift, mini facelift, and neck lift patients are confused by the terminology and procedures regarding facial rejuvenation surgery. Those patients who only want a tighter neck may benefit from submental liposuction or neck liposuction. If there is significant neck skin laxity, a neck lift may be warranted.

If you simply have jowling and want a tighter jawline but have minimal neck issues, a mini facelift or short scar facelift may be appropriate for you. There is less scarring, shorter recovery time, and can be performed on an outpatient basis.

Should I travel elsewhere in Texas for rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a complex operation in which the shape of the nose is changed and often functional improvement is made to breathing. Most major cities in Texas such as Houston, Dallas, and Austin have experienced rhinoplasty surgeons. However, if you live in a less populated area of Texas or one in which the demand for plastic surgery is not as high, you may have difficulty finding a plastic surgeon who specializes in rhinoplasty.

It’s important to find a Texas rhinoplasty surgeon who lives fairly close to you so you can easily visit for postoperative appointments and follow up with the rhinoplasty surgeon regularly. For Dr. Funk’s Houston rhinoplasty patients, he sees them at day 6, 8, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year. But most important of all is to seek a rhinoplasty surgeon with experience.

Can Rhinoplasty Fix Post Nasal Drip

Rhinoplasty or Nose Job Surgery can address functional nasal issues such as a deviated septum or enlarged turbinates. Post nasal drip can be due to many factors. Enlarged adenoids in the back of the nose or enlarged turbinates can lead to post nasal drip. Nasal allergies may also lead to post nasal drip.

During rhinoplasty, the adenoid may be removed or cauterized and the turbinates may be reduced in size. Although rhinoplasty will not cure allergies, it will decrease the severity of the allergies in terms of congestion by making the turbinates smaller. The irritative allergic symptoms such as runny nose and sneezing may still be present after rhinoplasty and these can be controlled medically.

Will Septoplasty fix a crooked nose?

My Houston rhinoplasty and septoplasty patients frequently ask if septoplasty alone will fix their crooked nose. Septoplasty for a deviated septum will improve breathing and may make the nostrils more symmetric, but will not straighten a crooked nose. The outer bony and cartilaginous framework of the nose will need to be straightened in order to straighten the appearance of the nose externally. This may include controlled fractures of the nasal bones, stitches to bend the cartilage and weakening the cartilage in certain ways.
