Can a facelift result be achieved without surgery?

Many Houston patients come in to my office and want the results of a facelift without surgery. There are many options for treatment of skin laxity in the neck, jawline, and jowls that are non-surgical. These include Thermage or radio frequency treatment or even Ulthera with ultrasound therapy. The downtime is considerably less than a facelift, and there is typically not a need for a trip to the operating room or anesthesia. There are also typically no scars and less risk

How long does eyelid surgery last?

Upper eyelid surgery or lower eyelid surgery is performed to remove excess skin from the eyelids and address lower eyelid bags. The lower eyelid bags are typically due to fat in the lower eyelid descending in the area. Eyelid surgery does not halt the aging process but creates a more rejuvenated, refreshed, and rested appearance. Normally eyelid surgery should last 7-10 years before a repeat procedure would be needed. Now, at this time, your eyes will not look the way they did prior to surgery and still look better. However, loose excess skin may start to show again.

When can I wear glasses after rhinoplasty?

Frequently with rhinoplasty the nasal bones are broken or fractured in order to narrow the nose. These nasal bones can still be fragile and mobile after rhinoplasty. A cast is typically placed on the nose after rhinoplasty and this usually stays in place for the first week. Glasses can be worn on top of the cast after rhinoplasty. In our office, patients who wear glasses or want to wear sunglasses are given their rhinoplasty cast back so they can wear their glasses on top of this cast. At Funk Facial Plastic Surgery we recommend you wear the glasses on top of the cast for the first 6-8 weeks.

Kybella and Neck Liposuction

Many of my Houston patients desiring to treat their double chin or full neck if Kybella or neck liposuction is best. This depends on your age, anatomy, skin laxity, amount of fat, and feeling towards surgery. Kybella will only work for the double chin or the fat just under the chin whereas liposuction will address this fat in addition to the fat along and under the jawline. Kybella requires at least 3 series of injections 2 months apart. After the first injection there is considerable swelling for the first 5-7 days. If you are considering having another procedure in addition to your neck that requires surgery, then neck liposuction would be a better choice. Cost of neck liposuction versus Kybella would depend on how much fat you have. Lastly, for both procedures, proper skin elasticity needs to be present so that the skin will contract after the fat is removed. Otherwise, you may require a neck lift.

Recovery after a mini facelift?

Many of my Houston patients who are seeking facial rejuvenation inquire what is the recovery after a mini facelift. This depends on the depth of dissection during the mini facelift. The incisions for the mini facelift are around the ears and temple but do not extend behind the ears as the neck lift incisions do. Remember, the mini facelift is mainly used to treat jowls and the jawline.

If the mini facelift is done with a deep plane dissection (which means the SMAS is incised and elevated and the ligaments are released beneath the SMAS), this will provide a better facelift that will last longer and fills the mid face at the same time. In addition, the deep plane will help suspend and tighten the neck but not as much as a neck lift. The deep plane does cause some more swelling which may last 2-3 more days than just a SMAS lift where a few stitches are placed to tack up the SMAS.
