Will rhinoplasty change my face?

Many of my Houston rhinoplasty patients want to know if rhinoplasty will change the appearance of their face, their image, or their visage. In truth, rhinoplasty should have a natural result and not change the appearance of ones image but only enhance it. It has been said that a good rhinoplasty is seen in the eyes, not in the nose. We frequently hear comments about models and actors eyes, hair, or lips, but rarely do we hear a comment about someone’s nose unless that person commenting is unhappy with their own nose. A good rhinoplasty should bring out the eyes, lips, or hair and avoid focus on the nose.

After Facelift Surgery Care

Many of my Houston facelift patients are concerned about their post facelift surgery care prior to surgery. At Funk Facial Plastic Surgery, we will provide all the proper instructions on postoperative care for bandages, dressings, incision lines and what to expect. We also recommend certain medication to stop prior to surgery and other medications to take afterwards to assist in the healing process. After facelift surgery care is discussed at length with both our patient care coordinator, handouts, and with Dr. Funk himself.

Eyelid Surgery after LASIK

I always ask my Houston eyelid surgery patients if they have had LASIK surgery in the past whether they are interested in upper eyelid surgery or lower eyelid bags surgery. Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty with a history of LASIK surgery can predispose one to dry eye. The blink reflex is slightly delayed after eyelid surgery and this can lead to some temporary dry eye. It’s important to be conservative with the amount of skin removed after upper eyelid surgery in patients with a history of dry eye and LASIK.

Rhinoplasty and Sleep Apnea

Some of my Houston rhinoplasty patients have issues with breathing while sleeping and admit to snoring or even apneic events. Rhinoplasty for cosmetic purposes will not improve breathing, snoring, and definitely not sleep apnea. However, if septoplasty or turbinate reduction is performed at the same time as rhinoplasty, this will improve breathing and snoring. Nose surgery will not improve sleep apnea or treat sleep apnea. However, if you are on CPAP, it may make the CPAP more tolerable with lower airway pressures.

Cost of a mini facelift versus a full facelift

Some of my Houston patients inquire about a mini facelift versus a full facelift as they feel the cost of a mini facelift is less than a full facelift and neck lift. With a mini facelift, the neck is not dissected and there is no platysmaplasty. Therefore, the time spent in the operating room with a mini facelift is usually shorter as well. Hence, a mini facelift is usually more affordable than a full facelift with a neck lift.
