Will a facelift get rid of wrinkles?

My Houston facelift patients will frequently ask whether their facelift will get rid of wrinkles. This is a valid question given that the medical term for facelift, rhytidectomy, means just that - excising wrinkles. The type of facelift and the location or type of wrinkles will determine how much of them will be affected. Those wrinkles that occur from the corners of the mouth and extend down towards the jawline which are frequently called Marionette lines will be significantly improved after a facelift. Those wrinkles or lines in that are accentuated with smiling that occur below the cheekbone in the more concave portion of the cheek will also be significantly improved with a facelift. However, the melolabial folds or smile lines coming down from the nostril will only be improved minimally with a facelift. The neck lines will have moderated improvement with a neck lift.
