Risks of Rhinoplasty

Many of my Houston rhinoplasty patients want to know the risks of rhinoplasty before surgery. Rhinoplasty is a complex surgery that requires time for healing. Most of my Houston nose surgery patients are social at the 8-10 day mark after surgery, but the final results when all the swelling has subsided does not occur until 1-2 years postoperatively.

As with any surgery, basic risks of rhinoplasty are bleeding, pain, infection, numbness, and scar. However, with rhinoplasty there is the risk of a septal perforation if septoplasty for a deviated septum is performed and impaired breathing if the nose collapses after rhinoplasty. There are many things that need to be done to prevent impaired breathing such as supporting the nasal valve after a large hump reduction or making the turbinates smaller.

Dr. Funk is a top rhinoplasty surgeon in Houston, TX.
