Tip rhinoplasty vs full rhinoplasty

Many of my Houston rhinoplasty patients simply want to adjust their bulbous tip or rotated their droopy tip. What is important to note regarding rhinoplasty is that the nose is like a puzzle. If you change one shape of the puzzle, you must change the subsequent shapes. So, if you narrow the nasal tip, then you may need to narrow the nasal bones and the nostrils. If you bring the tip in or shorten the nose, you may need to take the bridge down to adjust for this. This is why a tip rhinoplasty alone is fairly rare and should be preserved only for those patients who do not need adjustments made to the rest of the nose for balance.

Cadaver rib for rhinoplasty

Many of my Houston rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty patients may have had a previous septoplasty or rhinoplasty and now have a saddle nose or collapsed nose. Other Houston ethnic rhinoplasty patients want their bridge higher or feel their nasal bridge is too low. There are many options to augment a low nasal dorsum or bridge.

I prefer the use of irradiated cadaver rib to augment a slooped nose or saddle nose. This is from a screened donor and purified and then undergoes radiation treatments. It is an excellent option when we can not utilized septal cartilage after septoplasty or ear cartilage for rhinoplasty. The warping and infection rate are the same as autologous rib and avoids the extra incision, pain, and scar.

Laser for Lower Eyelid Bags Surgery

Many of my Houston eyelid surgery patients who have lower eyelid bags inquire into the use of laser for lower blepharoplasty. Laser treatments can be used to incise the conjunctiva or pink portion of the eye or can be used for resurfacing of the lower eyelid skin. I have not found that laser treatments decrease bleeding or swelling when making an incision in the conjunctiva. Ultimately, laser treatment may be useful for those surgeons who use it often, but the results with a scalpel or cautery are similar.

Is revision rhinoplasty free?

Many of my Houston rhinoplasty patients inquire into our revision rhinoplasty policy during their initial consultation. Although this is not the path we plan on taking, it is a valid question and one that can be easily addressed. At Funk Facial Plastic Surgery, our policy is that for Dr. Funk to consider a revision after your rhinoplasty, three criteria must be met. The first is that you the patient, must be unhappy with an aspect of the outcome of your rhinoplasty. Next, Dr. Funk has to be able to identify and recognize this concern as well. Lastly, there must be something that can be done for this issue. For example, patients with very thick skin whose tip has been made smaller but still want a more refined nasal tip may not be possible due to their skin thickness.

Dr. Funk’s policy is that if these criteria are met, the surgeon’s fee is waived and you the patient would simply be responsible for the facility and anesthesia fees.
