Will eyelid surgery improve vision?

My Houston eyelid surgery patients frequently ask about whether upper eyelid surgery will improve their vision. This is dependent on the amount of hooding or excess skin one has on the upper eyelids. Significant hooding can lead to a peripheral visual field loss and upper eyelid surgery can improve this.
Lower eyelid surgery for lower eyelid bags will not improve vision.

Dr. Funk performs eyelid surgery for upper eyelid and lower eyelid surgery for lower eyelid bags in Houston Texas.

Rhinoplasty or Nose Filler?

Many of my Houston rhinoplasty patients inquire as to whether surgery with rhinoplasty or fillers are the best option for their nose surgery. At Funk Facial Plastic Surgery, we perform both quite often. It is important to remember that with liquid rhinoplasty or a non surgical nose job, fillers are used to camouflage a hump or rotate and lengthen a nose. This will not make your nose smaller and it is temporary. It will also not correct any functional or breathing issues you may have. With surgery, rhinoplasty can remove a hump, shorten a nose, refine the tip, narrow the nose, and create permanent changes that a patient may desire for their nose.

Will rhinoplasty make me look younger?

Many of my Houston rhinoplasty patients have come in later in life for a nose job or rhinoplasty despite not liking the appearance of their nose all their life. There have been some studies that demonstrate that rhinoplasty can make you look younger. These studies looked at women who had a nasal hump and a droopy nasal tip. By removing this hump and rotating the tip of the nose, the women were evaluated and noted to appear 4-5 years younger on average. So yes, rhinoplasty can make you look younger.

Lower eyelid surgery approach

Should I have a transconjunctival lower eyelid blepharoplasty or a skin-muscle flap is a common question of my Houston eyelid surgery patients. These are the two options for lower eyelid surgery. Patients who have festoon or malar bags may be better candidates for a skin muscle flap rather than a transconjunctival approach. The transconjunctival approach is best for patients with a lax lower eyelid or best used with patients to avoid the lower lid sagging. A pinch of skin can be taken after the fat is removed or repositioned with the transconjunctival approach which will help with skin redundancy and loose skin in the lower eyelid.

Nose Job Imaging

Many of my Houston nose job or rhinoplasty patients come in for a consultation and want to see the digital imaging or rendering of what their nose may look like. They may ask how close of a surgical result Dr. Funk might attain to the imaging result. Rhinoplasty patients need to understand that the digital imaging result does not reflect an exact surgical result. The changes on the frontal view that are made are in 2 dimensions where the nose is a 3 dimensional object. I have therefore found that the changes made surgically on the frontal view look better than the digital rendering. It is important to note that with surgery, there is a whole wound healing process that cannot be controlled. This may lead to scar tissue build up or contracture of the skin in a different way.
