Rhinoplasty and Glasses?

Many of my Houston rhinoplasty patients ask if they can wear glasses after their rhinoplasty or nose job surgery. When a nasal hump is taken down and osteotomies or controlled fractures of the bone are performed, it is important not to put weight on the nasal bones. It is also important not to wear glasses the first 6-8 weeks as the weight of the glasses can leave an impression over the bridge of the nose after rhinoplasty. This area has a fair amount of swelling during this time due to osteotomies. If glasses are necessary after rhinoplasty, then we typically provide the nasal cast back to the patient to wear their glasses on. This would need to be done for the first 6-8 weeks after surgery.
