Scars and Eyelid Surgery

Many of my Houston eyelid surgery patients inquire about the scars left after eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty. Upper eyelid surgery requires excision of excess eyelid skin and the scar is typically left in the crease of the upper eyelid. A small portion of the scar will extend into a small crow’s feet wrinkle laterally. This is the portion of the upper eyelid surgery scar that will take the longest to heal and disappear. This portion of the scar will seem a little pink during the first few weeks but by 10 weeks should begin to disappear. Makeup can be worn over the scar after 10 days.

For lower blepharoplasty or lower eyelid bags surgery, the transconjunctival approach goes through the inside pink portion of the eyelid and therefore leaves no visible scar. However, if there is excess skin, a skin pinch is taken just 1-2mm below the lash line. This scar heals very well and disappears into small wrinkles in the area and is in a shadowed area below the lower eyelid lashes.

Dr. Funk performs upper eyelid surgery and lower eyelid bags surgery in Houston.
