Steroid injection after rhinoplasty

Some of my Houston rhinoplasty patients receive a steroid injection into the nose anywhere between the 1 month to 6 month mark after surgery. Patients with thicker skin or fullness in the area just superior to the tip of the nose may benefit from this injection. After rhinoplasty, the tip should be just slightly higher than the supra tip region. Therefore, there is a small empty space just behind the nasal tip that could be filled with scar tissue by the body. A small steroid or Kenalog injection will break up some of this scar tissue and prevent further deposition of the scar tissue in the region. This will allow for this supra tip break to occur. Sometimes a second or third steroid injection may be necessary.
