Injury after rhinoplasty

Occasionally, one of my Houston rhinoplasty patients will incur an injury after rhinoplasty during the early postoperative period. This is frequently due to an accidental bump to the nose. The most common culprits for injury to the nose after rhinoplasty are toddlers and large dogs. It is imperative that as a rhinoplasty patient one understands that the nose is quite fragile during the first 6-8 weeks after surgery. The bones are still mobile and cartilage is still healing. Therefore, an injury to the nose could shift the bones/cartilage and cause a change in the appearance of the final result.

Once the 8 week period has passed, a serious enough injury to the nose may change the appearance regardless if rhinoplasty was performed.
