Rhinoplasty for wide nose

A common concern for many of my Houston rhinoplasty patients is that they have too wide of a nose. This is especially true for ethnic rhinoplasty patients. A wide nose may be due to numerous reasons. Wide nasal bones and wide middle vault upper lateral cartilage can lead to a wide dorsum. A bulbous tip may be due to wide tip cartilage or too much length to the tip cartilage. The nostrils may be too wide due to excess flare or wide nostrils.

Narrowing a wide nose with rhinoplasty may consist of controlled fractures of the nasal bones to narrow the middle vault. Suturing techniques to narrow the nose may be needed. Tip refinement is essential with a bulbous tip utilizing suture techniques and grafts. Lastly, alar base reduction will narrow the nostrils and reduce flare.
