How does age affect rhinoplasty results?

Many of my Houston rhinoplasty patients are over 40 years old and interested in rhinoplasty to finally get the nose they always wanted. One thing to keep in mind with rhinoplasty for older adults is the skin does not have the elasticity of someone in their 20’s and 30’s. Therefore, it will take longer for the skin to contract onto the new bony/cartilaginous framework. The skin may be thinner over the bridge and thicker at the tip leading to any visible irregularity to be seen over the dorsum and not being able to get as refined as a tip as one may want. Rhinoplasty is still an excellent surgery for people over 40 years old, you just may not quite get the result you would have while in your 20’s or 30’s.
