When can I wear contacts after eyelid surgery?

Recovery after eyelid surgery is a common question posed by many of my Houston eyelid surgery patients. Patient who wear contacts want to know when they can begin wearing them again. For upper eyelid surgery, as long as there no irritation to the eyeball or globe after surgery and there is no evidence of dry eye, contact wearing resumption can occur at 3-5 days after surgery. The eyelid swelling needs to have resolved so that there is complete eyelid closure after eyelid surgery.

With lower eyelid surgery for lower eyelid bags, there is typically slightly more swelling so it is recommended to wait 7-10 days before placing contacts.
