What can I do for bruising after rhinoplasty?

When discussing rhinoplasty with my Houston patients, the topic of recovery and bruising frequently arises. Unfortunately, when taking down a dorsal hump or performing osteotomies or controlled fracture of the nasal bones, there may be some bruising around the thin skin of the eyelids. Older patients may have more capillary fragility and therefore more bruising. They may also have thinner skin which can lead to this.

At Funk Facial Plastic Surgery, we take many measures to minimize your bruising after rhinoplasty. The foremost important technique to prevent bruising is in the rhinoplasty surgeon’s hands. Handling the tissues delicately and controlling the bleeding during nose surgery is essential. Assuring that the patient is off certain vitamins, aspirin, ibuprofen and other medications that may cause bruising is essential as well. We also provide Arnica medications to minimize bruising and swelling.
