Facial nerve and facelift

During discussion with my Houston facelift patients, it is important to discuss risks of a facelift. One of the more important risks with facelift surgery is injury to the facial nerve. This injury is usually temporary and due to swelling or slight compression of the nerve during dissection with a facelift or neck lift. Once the swelling subsides the nerve usually recovers and normal and symmetric facial movement will return. Rarely is this injury permanent. It is important for the surgeon to know the anatomy and monitor the face closely during surgery to avoid any twitches of the face.

Dr. Funk performs facelifts, mini facelifts, and neck lifts in Houston.
