Narrowing the nostrils without rhinoplasty

Many of my Houston ethnic rhinoplasty patients are simply interested in reducing their nostrils size, treating flared nostrils, or wide nostrils. Alar base reduction alone an be performed in the office to narrow nostrils and reduce nostril flare. This can comfortably be performed under local anesthesia. The scar from alar base reduction are around the nostrils and do take slightly longer to heal than the open rhinoplasty scar as they are under slightly more tension. However, with meticulous wound closure and proper care of the incisions, the scars after nostril reduction heal quite well.

Will a facelift improve my eyes?

Some of my Houston facelift patients inquire as to whether a facelift or mini facelift will improve their bags under the eyes. Facelift surgery typically improves the jawline, neck, jowls and sometimes the mid face. It will not address the lower eyelids and not treat the bags under the eyes. Blepharoplasty or lower eyelid surgery will help lower eyelid bags and excess lower eyelid saggy skin. Lower eyelid surgery is commonly performed at the same time as a facelift.

Rhinoplasty for a long nose

Some of my Houston patients complain of having a long nose. This can mean a nose that projects out too far off the face or a nose that is too long from the top to the top. Rhinoplasty for a long nose could mean bringing the tip in closer to the face to decrease projection, rotating the tip to shorten the true length of the nose, or shortening a long deviated septum with septoplasty. A shortened nose may give the illusion of a more youthful nose and improve a long face.

Will a facelift help my eyelids?

Some of my Houston facelift patients are also concerned about the appearance of their eyes. Facelift surgery will help create a tighter jawline, improve jowling, and help tighten the neck. This will create the appearance of a more youthful jawline, fuller cheeks, and lift the corners of the mouth or marionette lines. Facelift surgery will not help bags under the eyes, or excess upper eyelid skin or hooded eyelids. Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery will help correct these issues. Eyelid surgery is a separate procedure from a facelift.

Will rhinoplasty change my eyes?

Many of my Houston rhinoplasty patients will ask if nose surgery will change other aspects of their face. Rhinoplasty will not necessarily change the shape of the eyes. However, it may lead others to focus more on your eyes. A crooked nose, bulbous tip, or nasal hump can draw attention away from the features of the face we want people to focus on such as the eyes, lips, and hair. Creating a softer, more subtle, and natural appearing nose will allow people to not be distracted by the nose and therefore more focused on the other features of the face. Narrowing a wide nose will also give the illusion that the eyes may be further spaced apart.
