Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery can help with excess skin of the upper eyelid and also treat the bags of the lower eyelids. These bags are made of fat that has started to push against a layer of connective tissue that has weakened over time. Some patients have these bags congenitally and require a similar lower blepharoplasty or eyelid lift. The fat can be accessed through a skin incision just under the lash line or through the conjunctiva or pink portion inside the eyelid. The conjunctival approach has a lower risk of ectropion, or the lower eyelid drooping after surgery. Excess skin of the lower eyelid can be removed with a skin pinch.
