What type of anesthesia is used for a facelift?

Many of my Houston facelift patients inquire as to the type of anesthesia used for a facelift.  A typical facelift or face and neck lift takes 2-4 hours, depending on the type of facelift.  Liposuction for the neck adds operative time as does dissecting out the neck.  A mini-facelift will take shorter time than a full face and neck lift.  Deep plane facelifts may take longer as well due to careful dissection under the muscle.

Most facelifts are done under general anesthesia where the patient is completely asleep.  However, occasionaly the surgery can be performed under twilight or conscious sedation.  Dr. Funk prefers general anesthesia as the blood pressure can be controlled more easily and the patient is more comfortable in a deep sleep.
