Will rhinoplasty scar go away?

Many of my Houston rhinoplasty patients are concerned about the appearance of the scar with an external rhinoplasty.  Those Houston ethnic rhinoplasty patients who are considering reducing nostril size or narrowing the nostrils are also concerned about the scar in this area.

The open rhinoplasty scar is placed between the two nostrils in the columella and usually shaped in an inverted V fashion.  This allows the scar to be broken up and less visible.  With meticulous closure, good wound care, and the appropriated amount of time, this open rhinoplasty scar should be almost imperceptible.

Alar scars for alar base reduction or nostril narrowing are placed in the shadowed area of the nostril crease.  This is a thick skinned area, especially with ethnic rhinoplasty patients.  Thicker skin tends to scar more.  However, with meticulous closure and proper wound care, this scar can be minimized.  Occassionaly postoperative dermabrasion will also help this scar.
