Should I narrow my nostrils with rhinoplasty?

Many of my Houston rhinoplasty patients question whether to have an alar base reduction to reduce their nostril width during rhinoplasty.  The width of the bridge of the nose should be 75% of the nostril width.  Narrowing the nostrils entails making small incisions at the base and around the edge of the nostrils.  These scars eventually heal nicely in this shadowed area.  Whether to narrow your nostrils is a discussion you should have with your surgeon in order to obtain the most aesthetic yet natural result.
