Drains after a Facelift

Many of our Houston Facelift patients will ask if they will need to maintain a drain after a facelift.  While placing a drain after a facelift is based on surgeon preference, Dr. Funk will let patients know that they may have a drain depending on a number of factors.  If the a neck lift is necessary where the skin of the neck is elevated to tighten the muscles of the neck, this may require a small drain.  Sometimes these drains have a suction cannister and other times there is just a small piece of rubber called a Pemrose drain the sits behind the ear and cannot be seen as it is under the dressing.  With a mini facelift or short scar facelift, frequently a drain is not required at all.
