Am I too old for rhinoplasty?

The average age for rhinoplasty is usually patients in their 20's.  However, Dr. Funk has performed rhinoplasty as early as 14 and as old as 76.  As long as patients are medically cleared to have rhinoplasty, it is a safe procedure.

As we get into our 50's the skin of the nose will begin to change.  The skin over the bridge of the nose will thin making dorsal humps and edges of bone more prominent.  The nasal tip skin will thicken making a bulbous tip appear even more boxy and bulbous.  The elasticity of the skin will decrease which is an important factor in healing.

With rhinoplasty, skin is rarely removed.  The shape of the cartilage and bone is changed and the skin needs to contract to this new framework.  Older and thicker skin will not contract as quickly and can also lead to more scar tissue formation surround the cartilage.  This needs to be taken into consideration with rhinoplasty in an older population.

Dr. Funk is a top rhinoplasty surgeon in Houston Texas.
