Rhinoplasty and Bruising

Many of my Houston rhinoplasty patients inquire as tohow long will bruising last after rhinoplasty. The answer is that every patient is different. Younger patients have less capillary fragility and will likely bruise less. Their bruising is usually unapparent or completely resolved by day 8-10 postoperatively. Patients that have more bony work or are a little older may have more prolonged bruising. Their bruising may last up to 2 weeks. There are multiple things that can be done to minimize bruising after rhinoplasty. Avoiding use of aspirin, ibuprofen, or any blood thinners prior to surgery is helpful. A surgeon who is gentle with the tissues and maintains good hemostasis will have less bruising. Arnica Montana pills, tea, and topical lotion may help some patients.
