Many of my Houston ethnic rhinoplasty patients are simply interested in reducing their nostrils size, treating flared nostrils, or wide nostrils. Alar base reduction alone an be performed in the office to narrow nostrils and reduce nostril flare. This can comfortably be performed under local anesthesia. The scar from alar base reduction are around the nostrils and do take slightly longer to heal than the open rhinoplasty scar as they are under slightly more tension. However, with meticulous wound closure and proper care of the incisions, the scars after nostril reduction heal quite well.
